Lyn Christoper
Born Linda Costa in Canarsie, Brooklyn in 1949, Lyn Christopher released a self-titled album on Paramount in 1973 which received favourable reviews and led to a number of TV show appearances. This hidden gem is today mostly remembered for featuring future Kiss members Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley on backing vocals and the song “Take Me With You” whose bassline has been heavily sampled by the likes of LL Cool J amongst others. Sadly, Paramount was bought out by ABC and although Lyn recorded a further two albums of songs for Paramount they were never released. One further single did emerge in 1975 on the small Granite label.
Lyn Christopher’s music career in fact started with Avco Embassy three years before in 1970 when she released two sublime singles “Momma, Momma” and “Drummer Man” which rival the best of the female vocalists of that period. Momma, Momma was backed with the up-tempo, no nonsense, swagger of her version of the Guess Who’s “No Sugar Tonight”.
